Yes, my blog is about Art, Music, Beautiful Distractions. Pets are a beautiful distraction to me. They make me smile, lift my spirit, when I look pets in the eyes, all I see is unconditional love.
It's been a while since I've had a chance to volunteer. So yesterday I decided to stop by "Adoption Day" near my house and ended up helping out taking care of a cute little pitbull puppy.
It feels great to be able to give those little guys some love outside of their shelter life; while it breaks my heart at the same time, seeing them go back, especially with a tag attached to their neck with an expiration date, yes the time left until they possibly getting euthanized due to overpopulation in the shelters.
I wasn't aware that four million cats and dogs -about every eight seconds- are put down due to overpopulation. The shelter I volunteered for,(LAAnimals)alone, told me about 15-20 pets get dropped off a daily!!! This is insane!
I just can't comprehend how anyone can drop off their pet somewhere and blame the economy. Sure things happen, people get divorced, lose their jobs, have to move but would you just leave your kid outside a store and take off? (yes, I know that does happen to)
I could rant on about how terrible humans can be but instead I'd rather think about ways of how I and the rest of us can help the situation.
Educate yourself and others!!!
1. To prevent overpopulation get your pet Spayed and neutered!
2. If you can't afford it, there are many low cost facilities listed on humanesociety.org, it has a huge list.
3. Adopt instead of buying from a breeder. Many amazing breeds are in shelters, not only do you save money, you save a life and gain a life long friend who's got nothing but love for you.
4. Be responsible! Treat your pet like you'd like to be treated! Make sure your pet is safe and taken care of at all times.
5. Spread awareness through social media and by word of mouth!
A little care and love can go a long way!
